Elastic bands are primarily used to stabilize the tattoo needle in the machine. By wrapping the band around the armature bar of the machine, it keeps the needle from wobbling or moving excessively during the tattooing process. The tension provided by the elastic band ensures that the needle moves smoothly and consistently, which is essential for creating clean and precise lines in a tattoo.
